The Beatles
John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison,
Ringo Starr, the fab four, best known as The Beatles... Probably
the most famous group of musicians ever. Many think that the
Lennon & McCartney writing collaboration was the most
successful ever, but it wasn't really a collaboration. John
Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote separate songs but published
under the Lennon & McCartney name. That two such brilliant
songwriters were in the same group is, perhaps, the reason
for The Beatles phenomenon. The reason I have given John Lennon
a page of his own as a solo artist is because as a solo artist
his songs became international anthems for freedom and peace,
but Paul McCartney is an equally gifted writer and I can only
imagine the two men competed with each other to write the
best song... Which could be a reason why every song they wrote
is exceptional. Their song writing just seemed to get better
and better and what I like most is that their songs never
lost the Beatle trademark, which, in my view, is wonderful
melody. I don't doubt the two men were each others greatest
influence and whatever they had must have been contagious
because George Harrison became a significant songwriter and
solo artist in his own right. Many have tried to put their
finger on the pulse of The Beatles success and all have failed,
which is why we are forced to resort to the word phenomenon
again and again when we refer to the fab four. The world is
blessed that these guys got together to make music and it
is music that doesn't appear to fade. A Beatle song is as
good today as when they first recorded it.... pure, unadulterated,
irresistable melody that gets into our soul and forces a smile
on our face and squeezes a tear into our eye...
