Rolling Stones
Legends. Genuine legends. It isn't so very often
one can state that with absolute conviction. Whether an artist
or group have achieved legendary status is generally open
to argument. But I challenge anyone to argue with me here?
The 60's sure hit a rich vein of musical talent and the Rolling
Stones were central in an amazing period for British popular
music. You could be forgiven for thinking there was some kind
of conspiracy a foot, but the Beatles and the Rolling Stones
were so different that it's hard to believe they influenced
each other. Mick Jagger and Keith Richard are very individual
talents and each are totally unique, as were Lennon and McCartney.
But unlike the Beatles who gave birth to a plethora of copy-cats,
there is no other band ever who has come close to the Rolling
Stones blend of Jazz, blues, Rock with songs that tell stories
with the fluency of folk... The Rolling Stones are their own
creation. They stand alone like a work of art by a true master.
I remermber growing up and, as a kid, glancing furtively sideways
at Rolling Stones fans and seeing them as dangerous and anti-establishment,
which is why I experience melancholy when I see Mick Jagger
watching England play cricket wearing a suit and tie... ;)
