All the Rock 'n' Roll greats of the 50's deserve our deepest
gratitude. I don't think we can really understand how brave
they were. They were genuine pioneers. They flew in the face
of society and were condemned as evil in a society blinkered
by religious dogma. I salute all the guys who stood up, remained
true to themselves and experimented dangerously with their
future and their talents. But each added strength to the other.
They stretched themselves because they were inspired by each
other. Sure, we see Elvis as the King of Rock 'n' Roll, but
if it wasn't for the Little Richard's and Jerry Lee Lewis's
would he have dared aspire to his potential whilst being condemned
by a blinkered society? ... Many would argue that it is Jerry
Lee Lewis or Buddy Holly or Little Richard who is the King
of Rock 'n' Roll... But I'm not one of them. For me, Elvis
is the King... Notice I said "is" :)
