Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix used a guitar like Janis Joplin
used her voice and emotions, with complete abandon. Whereas
we saw Janis naked and exposed as a true artist should be,
I don't feel Jimi Hendrix ever completely exposed himself
as an artist; maybe he died before the right moment afforded
him the opportunity. But I listen to Jimi and feel that the
world has missed out on a potential extraordinary experience.
Jimi Hendrix was, as was Joplin, a one off. His talent was
unique and as I write this I feel myself getting angry at
him. If he hadn't grilled his brain on drugs he could have
offered the world some magical moments, but then I think,
maybe it was the drugs that opened the particular corridor
of his brain that enabled the experience that was Jimi Hendrix...
Still, to have lost Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix within a
month of each other both aged just 27, is a tragedy that should
never have happened... I feel so sad now... Both were too
young with too much to say and both were broken individual's
with the potential to open minds. Were they genius? I think
so... Genius hewn from angst...
