Genesis
Whenever I think of Genesis I think of the band
that gave birth to Phil Collins, but of course, they were
a seriously successful band when Peter Gabriel was the main
vocalist and we cannot dilute the influence of Mike Rutherford
and Tony Banks, the creativity of each being integral to the
finished weave of the band. Genesis is a rock band that sort
of evolved and grew bigger than the personalities - and they
were big personalities. It would seem Genesis has evolved
from genesis, so the choice of the name is interestingly apt...
Although I have never been a huge fan, I felt I had to include
Genesis as, to me, the name is a statement of the big rock
band era. In the 70's there were a whole host of bands who
many would argue deserve their own pages on this website and
feel free to write a piece about them, send it to me and I
will publish on a page dedicated to that band.
In the meantime the two bands I have featured
are Genesis and Pink Floyd because, in my opinion, they were
the biggest and the best. But please feel free to debate that.
I have used Phil Collins photo above because
his face is the most familiar face of Genesis and, I have
to admit, as I write this piece I find myself singing "I
can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord...." which
is, of course, a Phil Collins solo - purely subconscious of
me, I assure you... he he... although, for all you purists
out there, I also kept imitating Phil Collins evil laugh in
Mama... But I'm going to go out on a limb here and argue that
Phil Collins solo success has seriously enhanced the greatness
of Genesis as a band... Please feel free to debate...
