Frank Sinatra
Like so many of the greats featured on this
site, Frank Sinatra was a larger-than-life personality. Sure
he could sing, but it was the style with which he presented
a song that set that song apart. His version of My Way was
literally that. He was incomparable.
Frank Sinatra is a music great because his name
reached iconic status. He didn't write songs, but he performed
them with such a potent dose of individual style that he made
them his own.
You'll probably note that I'm not gushing with
enthusiasm over Frank Sinatra. That is because he didn't particularly
inspire me, but he did inspire my parents and a whole generation.
My reservation about including Frank Sinatra lie mainly with
my suspicion people don't buy Frank Sinatra records anymore.
His style, the songs style and substance have dated. But I
have included him in my hall of fame because of what he achieved
in his lifetime. He was a great star and his name remains
iconic.
