Don McLean
Okay, hands up who sings American Pie in the
shower? ... There you go! That's why Don McLean makes my all
time music greats! American Pie has to be one of the greatest
songs ever in the whole history of songs! ;) And the damned,
but beautiful, song seems to go on forever and ever... It
is a brilliant song and the guy who can write a song as superbly
crafted, both musically and lyrically, as American Pie is
always guaranteed a spot on my all time list. But Don McLean
not only wrote American Pie, he also wrote Vincent, my personal
all time favourite song. Vincent is a song about Vincent Van
Goch and trembles with potent emotion. It is a simple song
with lyrics that weep, no, gush, tragedy. The line, "
And I could have told you, Vincent, this world was never meant
for one as beautiful as you..." floods my eyes like a
burst water main and I have to grab for the nearest king-sized
sheet because a hanky is simply not big enough. The song is
awesome and I relate to the sentiment 100%
Don McLean isn't only an inspirational songwriter,
the songs are marinated in aspiration. For me, Don McLean's
songs cause me to reach for my higher, deeper self. Don McLean's
delivery is so deeply sincere that the songs live on a whole
different level. To offer a song such potent life is creative
genius...
