Bob Dylan... Singer, Poet, Songwriter, Musician...
Artist, Creative Genius, Icon, Superstar... The guy shrugs
on all the superlatives you can think of like a tailor-made
suit fitted to skin-tight perfection... For me Bob Dylan is
the goal post. If you are a ten year old with a dream of becoming
a musical great, then you need to look to Bob Dylan and try
to follow his example. To simply list his song titles would
be too flippant with his life's work. Each song is a crafted,
honed masterpiece. Each word has been felt and considered
like a Master strokes paint onto a canvas. Yet, Dylan himself
remains as casual with his art and as punk in his attitude
as he did thirty odd years ago. To listen to Dylan express
his songs in his trademark, quirky, finger-pointing, utterly
unique and original style, feels as rebellious as it did when
I screamed out his songs driving to a surfing meet in my battered
VW caravanette. To be a fan of Bob Dylan in the seventies
felt like a hero swimming against the current of conservative
society. I felt great. It felt wonderful. I felt alive...
I miss that feeling, but thank Bob Dylan from the bottom of
my heart for the experience.
Bob Dylan borrowed his name from the great Welsh
poet Dylan Thomas and he has lived up to every letter of the
name.
