Barbara Streisand
Barbara Streisand has the, without exception,
most individual and seductive voice I have ever heard. But
that is just my opinion. To listen to her sing, for me, is
like listening to a cry from my own heart. I love her voice
and I love the characters she has played in her many uniquely
individual films. Especially I like her collaboration with
Barry Gibb and the resulting creative colossus that is the
Guilty album.
I have included Barbara Streisand in my music
greats because when Barbara Streisand sings a love song one
is inspired to love. Her voice is stunningly original and
has the power to transport the listener into their own particular
memories and dreams.
My original list of female performers was Madonna,
Carly Simon, Kate Bush, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone and
a whole host of Jazz singers from Billie and Nina's era. I
could have included Amy Winehouse, Dido and Nora Jones, but
feel they need to have a career first. But as I contemplated
my choice, Barbara Streisand's uniquely distinctive voice
sang in my head way above all the others. She is truly a one
off and that is why she has a page before the others.
