Abba
If the criteria for legendary or iconic status
for the greatest Pop Group was universal recognition of the
groups complete song list, then Abba stand beside The Beatles
and the Bee Gees.
Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus wrote
the now classic songs, but would they have been such huge
hits without the unique vocal signatures and harmonics of
Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad and Agnetha Åse Fältskog?
The songs are so good technically and so excellently produced
that, of course, the songs would have always stood up as genuine
creative achievements, but it is the complete package that
have made the name Abba legendary and the girls vocals, looks
and sexy costumes are an integral part of the whole. Abba
are truly a super group because four seriously talented individuals
happened to collaborate. Was that accidental? In my view it
happens too often to be coincidental, and, on the other hand,
the fact that it happens so rarely is why, individuals who
each possess unique individual talent and then collaborate
can compliment each other so perfectly that together they
reach iconic status. Those individual talents become so much
more than they would ever have been as solo artists. Could
it be that people of serious talent are naturally attracted
to each other? In my opinion yes, but it is rare that you
get four exceptionally talented individuals working in harmony
together.
Abba are now experiencing another incredible
level of success with the movie Mamma Mia and another generation
are introduced to the creative genius that is Abba. Life is
so exciting because now and again a phenomena, such as Abba,
happens... I love life and I will continue to listen to Abba,
and yes, I will also continue to fantasise about a sizzling
romantic liaison with Agnetha... or Anni-Frid, let us not
forget, she was seriously hot too... It was the way she pursed
her mouth as she sang...
